We went to a new playground today, in a different town. The playground was amazing, but that’s not why I’ve brought you here today. There was a mom there, with an almost-two-year-old and a five-month-old, and she was just- so pretty. She was so pretty. She was dressed simply and she had a black ribbon tied around her ponytail and she looked smart and clean and tidy and pretty. Not fancy. Easy. But neat. And interesting. Like Jenna Lyons but blond and Scandinavian.
And I don’t mean to say that I think moms, or women, or anyone should “make an effort” because no one needs to look anything for anybody ever. Let’s get that out of the way.
But I appreciated it. And I missed taking care like that. I mean, the ribbon! She has an almost-two-year-old and a five-month-old and she took the time to tie a ribbon in a bow around her ponytail. She was so lovely.
I’ve long since grown out of any desire to be someone else or have a different life, so this is a pure and sincere appreciation of this woman’s style and nothing more. No judgment, no envy, no indignation, no pandering.
